ABSTRACT
Background. Enoxaparin sodium, a low molecular weight heparin, is widely used for
prophylaxis and treatment of thrombotic diseases. Despite its efficacy,
enoxaparin can lead to complications, including hemorrhagic events.
Case presentation. We present a case of a 58-year-old man with ischemic heart disease and
heart failure who developed a rare hemorrhagic complication—an extensive thigh
muscle hematoma—while on enoxaparin therapy. The patient was
managed conservatively with blood transfusion and discontinuation of
anticoagulation, resulting in favorable outcomes.
Conclusions. This case underscores the importance of understanding the risks
associated with enoxaparin therapy and highlights the need for individualized
patient management strategies. Furthermore, it emphasizes the significance of
interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing rare complications to optimize
patient care. Further research is warranted to enhance
our understanding and management of such complications in thromboembolic
disorders.
